Health Culture and Literacy
Solutions for Clear Health Communication
Everyday healthcare providers, educators and plan administrators are challenged with communicating
health and disease - specific information to their patients or clients. However, few feel they have the skills
necessary to communicate successfully and to improve on these communications. Health, Culture and Literacy: Solutions
for Clear Health Communication” is aimed at providing evidence-based tools and resources to improve
your ability to communicate more effectively with patients and clients with low health literacy levels and those from
Maine’s increasingly diverse ethnic groups.
This conference will kick off a year-long initiative to provide Maine's primary care
providers and public health professionals with new knowledge and skills related
to health literacy and cultural competence. The goal is to improve communication
with patients and consumers, medical outcomes, and overall health status.
